About the Client

The company is recognized as one of the leading construction companies in Asia that is well known for the quality of its work and the excellence of its workforce. Offering a broad range of construction and engineering services, the company supplies expertise in the construction of large-scale heavy and light industrial projects, infrastructure, and property development projects all over the world.

Problem

The company had been using a traditional pen and paper test which took a long time to process candidates. They were limited to processing 5 to 10 candidates in a day, and it would take them 2 to 3 days before the results of the assessment would be ready for release to Hiring Managers.

In addition to the delay in processing applications caused by the slow assessment turnaround time, the turnover rate of new hires during training was 50%, which, of course, was unacceptably high.

Solution

HR Avatar's online pre-employment assessment solution was integrated into the company's recruitment process. The primary assessments utilized were job-specific simulation-based assessments for various engineering roles.

In some cases, the company took advantage of the shortened versions of the job-specific solutions in order to reduce the time burden on the candidates and to lower the overall processing time. These "short" versions were used primarily to assess candidates applying for engineering positions.

To adapt to the cultural environment, HR Avatar, in cooperation with ASEA Metrics, developed Asian versions of several of HR Avatar's job-specific simulation-based solutions. These Asian versions were administered to candidates applying for entry-level and blue-collar job openings.

Result

The use of HR Avatar increased their efficiency in hiring by 300% to 500% and increased quality of hire by more than 40%.

The company now evaluates 25 to 30 candidates rather than 5 to 10 candidates each day. Results are promptly sent to the Hiring Managers allowing them to make immediate decisions.

There has been a significant reduction turnover during training, which has decreased from 50% to 8%. Additionally, consistent feedback from hiring managers confirms that the performance of the newly hired employees aligns with their HR Avatar results. Overall performance ratings on newly hired staff are up by approximately 40%.
